The October Rainbow Card Challenge

Hello there, welcome to my post for the October Rainbow Card Challenge!

As you can see, the monochromatic theme this month is slate gray. I had to really pick my brain about what to make. I don't make spooky cards unless they're really cute and I really do not have any stamps or dies for anything that I liked.

So I thought about city scapes, and that sounded pretty good, I even borrowed a die for that... but somehow I just wanted those two trees from Penny Black that I have owned for a long time. But I love them. They remind me of Fall or wintry days and the wind catching the leaves. I usually do these trees in colors, but this is monochromatic... so no colors!!! That's the beauty of participating in challenges. It can stretch us and get us out of our comfort zone to make something we might not do otherwise. I love that about challenges!!!

So on to my card.

I dry embossed  gray cardstock with a pretty folder I had and did some gray ink (London Fog) over the embossing to give it some depth and dimension.

Next, on watercolor paper I stamped the tree image in the same London Fog ink and adhered the black thin border to the image. I think these thin border dies are the best thing... I just love them!!!

Then... (of course) it lacked something... not sure what, but something!!! That's when you start going through your stamps, dies, and embellishments. It didn't take too long before I remembered this stamp set.
I have had for several years that I have not used a whole lot... but I had used these three birds before and really liked how they come out. The set includes several birds, and accessories such as hats, bows, ties, glasses, etc. great stamp set!!! As soon as I thought of them I knew they were it!!!. I stamped them on watercolor paper and used a few gray pencils to give them life and applied those adorable glasses, tried a hat... no that wasn't it. And ended up with a bow tie!!!

DONE!!!
Hope you enjoy my little story of creation.
I love to share it because I enjoy it so much to keep working it until you can say... voila!!! it's done!!!

  1. Hi Elena, your card is gorgeous. I love the moodboard colours. I think grey is an under-rated colour. The embossed border is beautiful and I love the dimension with the frame and the trees behind and then those adorable little birds. A fabulous creation. Hugz
